Rakuna is a survivor of homelessness and decades of severe physical and sexual violence and emotional abuse. She has spent her teenage and adult years working and volunteering for non-profit organizations and mutual aid groups supporting At-Risk Youth, Domestic Violence Survivors, LGBTQ rights, Food for Underserved Communities, and Environmental Protection and Restoration. She loves DIY, herbalism, snuggling with animals, and playing in forests.
She first began teaching herself music at 21 years old when she found a guitar at a flea market. Even though she struggled with mutism on and off throughout her life, she soon found songs pouring out of her that felt like they were healing her mind, body, and spirit. Now she’s sharing her music with other survivors with the hope it will encourage them to remember their innate worth as human beings and know they have always deserved love and respect, no matter what anyone has said or done to them.
She has extensive training and experience as a Peer Counselor for abuse and trauma survivors and is Certified as a Forest Therapy Guide, Mindful Archery Teacher, and QiGong Instructor.
